Enterprise Network Architect / Lead Network Engineer
Location: Remote / Work from Home (Candidate must reside in the state of New York)
Contract engagement: 6 months
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Network Architect or Lead Network Engineer to take full ownership of the design, strategy, and implementation of our global network infrastructure. This highly technical role demands hands-on expertise with the full network stack—not just isolated components—and requires the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively. The ideal candidate will mentor and lead by example, inspiring and teaching peers while evaluating, documenting, and optimizing network topology. This is not a project or people management position but a technical leadership role that emphasizes collaboration and communication within a high-performing team.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize enterprise-wide network solutions across WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Lead network technology selection, vendor evaluations, and ensure the integration of cutting-edge solutions.
- Mentor and coach existing engineering staff, modeling technical excellence and teaching by example.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with a focus on educating peers.
- Evaluate, document, and update network topology, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency across all domains.
- Take a hands-on approach to network troubleshooting, performance tuning, and troubleshooting complex issues.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and proactively integrate new solutions into the network architecture.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and share technical knowledge through mentoring and hands-on guidance.
Required experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise network design, implementation, and support, with a deep understanding of the full network stack.
- Expertise in core networking protocols and technologies (BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, VxLAN, IPSec, DMVPN, IPv4/IPv6).
- Experience with Cisco routing, switching, and NextGen firewalls, as well as Wi-Fi and hybrid cloud environments.
- Ability to mentor peers and share technical expertise, particularly in complex network architectures.
- Strong communication skills, capable of teaching, mentoring, and effectively communicating with a proud and highly intelligent team.
- Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCIE) preferred.
- Experience with network access control (e.g., Cisco ISE) and network security best practices.
Note:
- This is a technical leadership role, not focused on project or people management. Candidates from large, mature organizations who have not had exposure to hands-on, full-stack network work may find this environment challenging.
- The role requires strong communication and the ability to teach through technical prowess and example. Strong peers who value clarity and technical expertise will thrive in this environment.
